Tool Holders
HSK, SK and BT holders and collet systems for precise runout and high rigidity.
Home / Tool Holders

The tool holder connects the spindle to the cutting tool and directly affects tool life and surface finish through runout, rigidity and balance. Even the best cutting tool cannot perform in an unsuitable holder.
Techment provides collet, hydraulic, shrink-fit and Weldon holders in HSK, SK (DIN 69871), BT and other interfaces to suit your machine and operation. Together we choose the right system for your runout and rigidity needs.
- HSK, SK, BT and other spindle interfaces
- Collet, hydraulic, shrink-fit and Weldon clamping
- Low runout for longer tool life and better finish
- Balanced holders for high spindle speeds
Types of Tool Holders
Collet Chucks (ER)
Flexible, economical clamping over a wide diameter range for drilling, tapping and general milling.
Hydraulic Chucks
Very low runout and vibration damping for finishing, reaming and precision drilling.
Shrink-Fit Holders
Slim design, high rigidity and low runout for mold work and high-speed machining.
Weldon Holders
Side-lock clamping that will not slip, for heavy roughing.
Milling Arbors
Arbor systems for face and side milling cutters.
Tapping Chucks
For synchronous or compensating tapping.
Applications
- High-speed mold machining
- Precision holes and reaming
- Heavy rough milling
- High-volume machining centres
- Five-axis machining

How to Choose the Right Tool
Identify the spindle interface
HSK, SK, BT or another interface and size, depending on your machine.
Choose the clamping system
Runout, rigidity and torque needs decide between collet, hydraulic, shrink-fit or Weldon.
Plan reach and overhang
Choose the shortest, most rigid combination that still reaches the part.
Check balance and speed
At high speeds a balanced holder protects both surface finish and spindle life.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does runout affect tool life?
A lot. Even a few microns of extra runout can overload some flutes and noticeably shorten tool life. Precision applications aim for 3 µm or less.
HSK or SK/BT?
HSK, with its short taper and face contact, gives more rigid and precise clamping at high speeds. SK and BT are standard on many machines and fine for general work. The choice depends on your spindle.
Hydraulic or shrink-fit?
Hydraulic chucks are easy to use and damp vibration. Shrink-fit holders are slimmer and more rigid but need a heating unit.
How often should collets be replaced?
Collets are wear parts. Replace them when you see increased runout, clamping marks or slipping; periodic replacement is recommended under heavy use.
